A master key opens many locks; each lock also has its own change key. Hierarchies can extend to grand masters and great-grand masters for large portfolios.
We typically design 3-tier hierarchies for Holladay portfolios: GM (you), Property Master (per address), and Tenant Keys (per unit/door).
Sharing a master key with maintenance staff is convenient but risky. Use restricted keyways so master keys can't be duplicated without your authorization card.
Initial design and installation runs $35–$85 per cylinder depending on keyway. Annual maintenance is minimal.
